Overview

The 2025 edition was themed «Altenburg — Center of European Organ Artistry» and leveraged the city's designation as the ECHO Chair of the European Cities of Historic Organs. On August 28th, Castle Organist Daniel Beilschmidt presented Bach's Orgelbüchlein on the Trost Organ in the Castle Church and introduced his CD recording. Additionally, the program included opera and operetta highlights, organ academies, and concerts in the Brüderkirche and St. Bartholomäi Church. The 2025 festival thus set the thematic framework for the ambitious anniversary edition in 2026.

Review 2025

The 2025 Altenburg Music Festival ran from August 15th to 30th and was the festival year in which Altenburg was honored as the ECHO Chair 2025 of the European Cities of Historic Organs. The focus was on the 1739 Trost Organ in the Castle Church, where Castle Organist Daniel Beilschmidt performed Bach's Orgelbüchlein on August 28th and presented his CD recording. The Mitteldeutsche Orgelgesellschaft Altenburg e.V. also organized the Thuringian Organ Academy, an opera and operetta gala, and concerts in the Brüderkirche and St. Bartholomäi Church. The 2025 festival thus provided the thematic context for the ambitious anniversary edition in 2026.
