Overview

In 2025, the Almabtrieb in Reit im Winkl once again attracted numerous guests to the Chiemgau village on the Tyrolean border. Decorated cows from Winklmoos-Alm and the surrounding high pastures descended into the valley after about 100 days of grazing, and were welcomed in the village center with brass music, traditional costumes, and a farmers' and hikers' market.

As in previous years, the 2025 Almabtrieb marked the traditional start of the Chiemgau Hiking Autumn season in Reit im Winkl. In the preceding weeks, the alpine farmers had prepared the alpine roses, Swiss pine branches, ribbons, and bells for the Moarkühe, so that the animals descended into the valley in full splendor on the festival day. Integrated into the Tourist Information's program, the 2025 Almabtrieb was an occasion for brass music, Schuhplattler, and a market featuring regional cheese, bacon, beer, and honey.

For over a decade, Reit im Winkl has been one of the Almabtrieb destinations organized by Chiemgau Tourism – the event is considered one of the most authentic in the Bavarian Alps and attracts day-trippers from Munich, Salzburg, and the entire Chiemgau region every year.
