Overview

On Saturday, September 20, 2025, the festively decorated cattle returned to the valley from the early afternoon via Freidling-Kühberg in Piding. Farming families, traditional costume groups, and music bands accompanied the Almabtrieb, which, as every year, marked the end of the summer grazing season in the Berchtesgadener Land.

The Almabtrieb in Piding 2025 adhered to its traditional format: starting around 1 PM, the first animals arrived at the gathering point, and the cattle, decorated with wreaths, were expected at Freidling-Kühberg around 3 PM. The decoration once again signified that no animal had been harmed during the summer grazing season – a central custom of Upper Bavarian alpine culture.

The procession was accompanied by brass music, traditional costume groups, and cultural heritage enthusiasts. At the festival grounds, local restaurateurs and farming families offered regional specialties. As in previous years, admission was free – thus, the Almabtrieb in Piding retains its character as an organically grown farmers' festival, not devolving into a tourist spectacle.
