Overview
The Allgäuer Gauverband — the umbrella organization of the Allgäu mountain costume and heritage associations — awards the Regional Costume Festival annually to one of its member locations. Thus, the most important large-scale traditional costume event in the Allgäu tours throughout the region, from Lindau to Füssen. In 2025, the 86th edition was celebrated in a member location of the association, with the classic program of a parade, Schuhplattler competition, Dirndldrahn, and a festive service.
The tradition dates back to the founding years of the association in the 1920s. Despite all modern influences, the Allgäuer Gauverband preserves one of the most vibrant costume traditions in southern Germany with its annual Regional Costume Festival — and in 2026 in Rettenberg, the festival will be particularly festive because the host Grüntenbuebe group is celebrating its 100th anniversary.
