Overview

The 2025 Adelheidisfest marked the 1010th anniversary of the death of Saint Adelheid and took place, as usual, in early February at the Collegiate and Parish Church of St. Peter Bonn-Vilich — with festive masses, spiritual reflections, a lecture evening, and the traditional candlelight procession.

The 2025 festival week commemorating Saint Adelheid of Vilich included the 1010th anniversary of the death of the first abbess of the Vilich convent. The Catholic parish community of Vilich, in cooperation with the Archdiocese of Cologne and the Denkmal- und Geschichtsverein Bonn-Rechtsrheinisch e.V. (Monument and History Association Bonn-Right Bank), organized a week of masses, lectures, and gatherings.

Highlights included the High Mass on Saturday, the Festival Service on Sunday at St. Peter's, and the subsequent candlelight procession through old Vilich with the saint's reliquary bust. The festival week was framed by a programme of spiritual reflections, ecumenical gatherings, and art historical lectures on the early medieval conventual history of the Rhineland — a prelude to the major jubilee year of 2026.
