Overview
In 2025, the Aalregatta again started as part of the Welcome Races of Kiel Week. Over 200 yachts sailed from Kiel to Eckernförde on Saturday, and back on Sunday. In Eckernförde harbour, a three-day harbour festival accompanied the yachts' arrival — with a festival mile, live music, catering, and a grand award ceremony at the harbour head.
The 2025 edition followed the proven format: start in Kiel's inner fjord, distance to Eckernförde, harbour festival, and award ceremony on Saturday evening, return race on Sunday. The organisers were the Segelclub Eckernförde e.V. and the Kiel Yacht Club as part of the Welcome Races.
As in previous years, spectators could follow the yachts online via AIS live tracking — a feature that makes the spectacle tangible even for landlubbers.
