Overview

The 13th Aalen Roman Days took place on September 23 and 24, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the grounds of the Limesmuseum. Reenactor groups from several European countries presented Roman military history and ancient crafts — legionary drills, gladiator fights, Roman water organ, glassblowers, and blacksmiths. The 13th edition served as a direct precursor to the refined format of the 14th Roman Days in 2026.

Proven Reenactment Format

The Roman Days traditionally take place every two years; the 13th edition in 2023 once again brought reenactor groups from Germany and several European countries to the Limesmuseum grounds. The format — two days, several simultaneously active areas, alternating demonstrations — has stabilized over the years and is considered one of the most distinguished Roman reenactment events in Southern Germany.

The positive response to the 13th edition and the continuous connection to the UNESCO World Heritage status of the Limes have prompted the Limesmuseum to continue the 14th edition in 2026 with an expanded program. The Roman Days are thus a fixed date in the calendar of Roman historical preservation in Baden-Württemberg.
