Overview

2025 was a preparation year for the grand anniversary Gaufest in 2026. The Gaufest of the Chiemgau Alpine Association is a recurring major event for the Upper Bavarian traditional costume clubs, which is not held annually but in a multi-year cycle, rotating among different communities in the Chiemgau region. In 2025, preparations for the 88th Gaufest in Marquartstein were underway in the member clubs — costume rehearsals, Schuhplattler practice, parade planning, and logistical coordination among the association's over 80 clubs.

The Chiemgau Alpine Association, founded in 1926, unites over 80 traditional costume and heritage clubs in the Chiemgau region. The Gaufest, as the central association festival, does not take place every year but is organized in a multi-year cycle — hence the numbering (88th Gaufest 2026, the previous ones were held earlier).

In 2025, the GTEV Marquartstein-Piesenhausen prepared the 2026 anniversary festival — in honor of the 100th birthday of the association and the 100th anniversary of its own club. In the member clubs, the participants rehearsed their Schuhplattler, Dirndldrahn dances, and Goassl-Schnoiza performances for the 2026 festival parade.

Throughout 2025, numerous local traditional costume festivals took place in various Chiemgau communities, performances by individual club groups, and smaller competitions that served as a dress rehearsal for the grand anniversary festival.
