150 Years Fire Brigade Bruchweiler-Bärenbach

The Volunteer Fire Brigade Bruchweiler-Bärenbach is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2026. A brigade founded in 1876 looks back on a century and a half of voluntary commitment to the safety of the village population. The anniversary will be honored with a large two-day Volksfest (public festival) on June 19th and 20th, 2026.

150 Years of History

Volunteer fire brigades became widespread in Germany in the second half of the 19th century. They were a response to frequent village fires and the difficulty of mobilizing organized help quickly in rural areas. Bruchweiler-Bärenbach was among the villages that established their own brigades early on – a testament to the strong commitment of the village population. For over 150 years, the brigade has trained generations of active members and performed extraordinary services in response to fires, storm damage, and technical assistance.

Festival Weekend

The anniversary celebration will take place over two days. Friday typically features an official ceremonial act with honors for long-standing members and greetings from the administration and district fire brigades; Saturday and Sunday host the grand Volksfest (public festival) with catering, live music, and a family program. Demonstrations of fire brigade technology – practice drills, turntable ladder presentations, historical equipment exhibitions – will complement the program.

Bruchweiler-Bärenbach

Bruchweiler-Bärenbach, with just under 1,070 inhabitants, is located in the southern Palatinate Forest, in the Dahn Rock Country. The double village originated from the originally separate villages of Bruchweiler and Bärenbach. The local club structure is active; in addition to the fire brigade, the MGV Waldeslust also contributes to the festival culture with its Hoffest (courtyard festival). The 150th fire brigade anniversary is the highlight of 2026.
