From 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., the main street in the town center will be closed to traffic – making space for the ceremonial act, demonstration drives of fire fighting technology, historical vehicles, hands-on activities for children, and an evening gathering. The event is organized by the Kodersdorf/Rengersdorf Volunteer Fire Brigade Association (e.V.) in cooperation with the municipality of Kodersdorf in the Upper Lusatia region, east of Görlitz.

On May 30, 2026, the Volunteer Fire Brigade Kodersdorf will celebrate its 125th anniversary from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Straße der Freundschaft in the town center will be closed all day between house numbers 1 and 2; on the grounds around the municipal office and fire station, the program includes a ceremonial act, demonstration drives, historical fire fighting technology, a children's program, and a parade through the town.

Anniversary Day on May 30, 2026

The celebration day begins in the morning with a festive ceremony at the municipal office – speeches, honors, presentation of awards to long-serving comrades. Afterwards, the festival grounds on Straße der Freundschaft will open to the public. The municipality's brigades will present their vehicles and equipment, friendly brigades from the region will be guests, and historical fire fighting technology will be on display.

For children, there will be a bouncy castle, a mini-firefighting course with toy pumps and buckets, as well as a face-painting corner and craft activities. Several demonstration drives will showcase exercises by the active brigade – person rescue, technical assistance, firefighting. The emotional highlight will be the traditional parade through the town, followed by socializing and music until 8 p.m.

A Quarter Millennium Half — 125 Years of Fire Protection in Kodersdorf

The Volunteer Fire Brigade Kodersdorf is one of the oldest associations in the municipality. Founded in 1901 in response to the increasing risk of fire in the growing industrial town east of Görlitz, the brigade is now part of the Kodersdorf Municipal Fire Brigade, which secures the districts of Kodersdorf, Rengersdorf, and Wiesa. The 125th anniversary on May 30, 2026, is therefore more than just an internal association jubilee – it is a day of celebration for the entire community.

Festival Grounds and Program

For the anniversary, the Straße der Freundschaft between house numbers 1 and 2 – the central axis between the municipal office and the fire station – will be completely closed to car traffic from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. On the festival grounds, the active brigades of the municipality, their youth fire brigade, friendly brigades from the region, and historical fire fighting technology will be presented. For children, there will be a bouncy castle, a mini-firefighting course, and the popular water sprayer. The ceremonial act will be marked by speeches from the municipality, honors for long-serving comrades, and the traditional parade through the town.
